Track by Track review of the upcoming debut by Visti and Meyland on Bear Funk records this Monday (June 14th).
The eponymous Long Player opens strongly with ‘The Chair’, a cosmic rock affair with beautiful use of classical guitars and a pulsating rhythm.
‘Stars’ takes a more laid-back attitude again with guitars but accompanied with some piano chords that enhance the synths achieving a great result.
‘Yes Ma’am (All Nite) was the single that propelled Visti & Meyland into the club scene. It is included here in its original version.
‘Leave your worries’ present us some male vocals reminiscent of Serge Gainsbourg introducing instruments as the track progresses.
‘Slowly’ is a dubby affair with some eastern flavours and enchanting vocals that shows the versatility of this duo.
‘Nighclubbing’ is exactly that, a clubby track with plenty of reverb and vocals that serve well its purpose.
‘I’m Scared’ takes a more ‘funky-punkie’ route a la Chicks On Speed.
‘Something in the Way’ is perhaps my favourite one. Mellow vocodized vocals over some synths lines and guitar chords make this track a winner for me which welcomes this album outro, ‘The Power of Poking’ an ambient exercise in electronica that morphes into some kind of drum gymnastics.
Overall a multifaceted debut by these duo who has showed us that they are able to deliver not only on the dancefloor, but also at home. Demonstrating a wide range of mastery and skills across the board by working all kind of music genres. They give us a Grace Jones cover, some introspective excursions in dub and electronic music and a dose of nu-disco songs. Will not disappoint you! It wears the Bear Funk label on it
